Trinity Mirror has begun developing a mobile phone website for 12 of its regional newspaper titles.

The company has partnered up with mobile phone giant Nokia and Bluestar Mobile to develop the sites, the first of which are due for launch in the autumn.

The regional newspapers included in the project are the Evening Chronicle and Journal in Newcastle, Teesside Evening Gazette, Liverpool Daily Post and Echo, Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Daily Post in North Wales, Cardiff dailies the Western Mail and South Wales Echo, Birmingham Post and Mail and Coventry Telegraph.

The rollout will also include its national titles the Daily Mirror and Daily Record.

Rick Gleave, head of Trinity Mirror Interactive and Mobile, said: "The development of these platforms will give users instant access to national and local news, information and advertising on their mobile phone.

"Each of these brands will have a print title, a companion website and a mobile site, which is further proof that we are a growing multiplatform media business."
